How do interior
landscapes contribute to green building design?
Interior landscapes have an integral role in green building
design. University research has proven that plants improve indoor
air quality, increase worker productivity, boost morale and
provide a sense of tranquility.
Plants can contribute to a buildings ranking from US Green Building
Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
certification. Depending on level of certification, LEED buildings
tend to use less energy, less water, have more natural light,
are built from environmentally friendly materials and are more
comfortable to work in. Plants and interior landscapes can contribute
to LEED certification points in the following categories: Innovation
in design, indoor air quality, indoor chemical and pollutant
source control, and water efficiency. |
